What is a Marriage and Family Therapist?

What's a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) you ask? MFTs take a systems approach when working with an issue or a problem.

Our philosophy is that no one person is the identified patient; rather the system, or a group of people they come from, is treated as the patient. It is the system that needs to be altered or taught how to communicate differently, or in a healthier manner. A common miscommunication for MFTs is they don't work with individuals. However, individuals are part of the family system, as they are also part of school systems, church systems, industries, or any group of people who gather. When one part of the system changes, the whole system changes.
